Here is a simple recipe for making delicious chicken momos:
Ingredients:
For the dough:
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of oil
- 3/4 cup of warm water
For the filling:
- 500g of minced chicken
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon of ginger, minced
- 1 teaspoon of soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon of vinegar
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon of cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon of red chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon of ajinomoto (optional)
- 2 tablespoons of chopped cilantro
- 1 tablespoon of oil
Instructions:
- To make the dough, mix flour, salt, baking powder, and oil in a large mixing bowl. Gradually add warm water to form a soft dough.
- Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- To make the filling, heat oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, and minced ginger. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent.
- Add minced chicken to the frying pan and cook until browned.
- Add soy sauce, vinegar, salt, black pepper, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, red chili powder, and ajinomoto (if using). Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Turn off the heat and stir in chopped cilantro. Allow the filling to cool.
- Divide the dough into small balls. Roll each ball into a thin circle about 4 inches in diameter.
- Place a tablespoon of the chicken filling in the center of each dough circle.
- Pleat the edges of the dough to form a momo, ensuring that the filling is securely enclosed.
- Place the momos in a steamer basket, leaving some space between them.
- Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Place the steamer basket over the boiling water, cover the pot with a lid, and steam the momos for 15-20 minutes or until fully cooked.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce. Enjoy!
